THE SCHOOL

Since its establishment in 1971 the Wessex Academy has been owned and managed by the same family that operated the School today. Being sensitive to the needs of others and providing a friendly, safe and professional learning environment is out commitment to all our students.

 

The school has continuously achieved the high and exacting standards set by the British Council since 1976.

 

The Wessex Academy is Poole's only British Academy accredited school with adult courses available year round and juniors (PISCES) courses available during the summer.

Programmes for government and school groups can be arranged. Including specialist courses for military and local government personnel. Spanish government officials visited the school in 2006 representing 9 successful years of collaboration on academic programmes.

ACADEMIC FACILITIES

Free internet access and Wi-Fi connectivity via the School's own Computer Room.

 

A fully equipped listing center with a wide selection of listening, reading and dictation material plus a broad set of past exam papers for Cambridge - KET, PET, FCE, CAE, CPE, BEC & IELTS, and TOEFL and TOEIC examinations.

 

The Directed Study Centre (Library) retains over 600 texts of varying levles. Materials can be taken home for additional study. For student information the Direct Study Center also stocks prospectus's for most of the Uk's universities.

 

All the above facilities plus a cafeteria, large gardens, tennis & basketball courts and ping-pong are available to students throughout the day at no additional charge.

 

The Director of Studies and the teachers are available to help, advise and direct students with their homework and additional study practice.

 

All the teaching staff are professionally qualified and experienced in their specific areas.

 

All tutors hold either a first degree, diploma or certificate qualification in teacing English as a foreign language. They undergo regular training and development and the Director of Studies continually monitors their progress.

 

Class sizes are on average between 8 and 10 but no larger than 12. During your stay you will be monitored continuously by a programme of formal and informal tests and examinations. Every 5 weeks you will have a one-to-one tutorial with your class teacher or the Director of Studies.

 

HOMESTAY

 

Our homesay accomodation is inspected and monitored closely. Most families are located less than 20 minutes walking distance from the School. Their close proximity allows students to make the best use of the comprehensive social programme helping them develop a good and active social life.
